Facilitating Long-Term Improvements in Graduation and Higher Education for Tomorrow
"Take Stock In Children, a 501(c)(3) non-profit with 15 years of success in narrowing educational attainment gaps for low-income, mostly minority students in Florida, will officially partner with three LEAs (Broward, Monroe, and Highlands Counties) to create FLIGHT: Facilitating Long-Term Improvements in Graduation and Higher Education for Tomorrow. We will address Absolute Priority 2 and Competitive Priorities 6, 7, and 8 as we pursue our goals to: 1) Increase utilization of student data by school/district partners and stakeholders to identify high-need students and implement timely interventions to increase their academic success; 2) Increase the high school graduation rate for low-income and minority students; 3) Increase college access and success for low-income and minority students. Project Activities: Student Advocates embedded in schools will
monitor participating students? academic and behavioral records through a data platform integrating state, district, and school-level information to ensure timely interventions for high-need students. This innovative early warning system will provide real-time student data to all key stakeholders. At-risk student participants will receive wraparound supports including ongoing, intensive academic and behavioral monitoring, case management, in-school community-based mentoring, and individualized interventions; College Enrollment and Retention Specialists will provide postsecondary preparation, transition services, and support during the first three college semesters. Each participating student is guaranteed a four-year college scholarship provided by our network of corporate, business, and private donors. Outcomes: FLIGHT will enhance data utility for program monitoring; improve academic and behavioral student outcomes; improve postsecondary matriculation; and reduce college remediation.Other partners are the State University System of Florida, the Florida Prepaid College Foundation, and the Florida DOE."
