Improving Data Use in Schools: Expanding the Achievement Network Model

25,200 students. We would accomplish this growth through an expansion of four of our existing school
Networks in Massachusetts, Washington, DC, Louisiana, and Illinois. Expansion of these existing networks,
rather than building new networks, will avoid the high start-up fixed costs associates with new networks.
Combining high-quality standards-aligned assessments, educator coaching, and peer Networks, ANet currently
enables 90 schools and nearly 18,000 students in six Networks to use data to increase high-need student
achievement. Every 6-8 weeks, schools administer two ANet interim assessments aligned to state standardsone
in English Language Arts (ELA) and one in mathematics- to students in grades 3-8. ANet also provides
logistical support to score its assessments and returns performance reports to school leaders. In addition, each
year ANet provides 4-14 school trainings and observations, two Network-wide professional trainings, and two
Network meetings of member schools.
ANet?s i3 project aims to increase student achievement by expanding ANet?s data-driven model to new schools
within current Networks, validate the impact of ANet?s model on achievement through a formal independent
randomized control evaluation, and refine and share the ANet model for implementation by more schools.
ANet?s high impact on student achievement gains is supported by a multitude of research suggesting the
importance of interim assessments and related supports, including an external study showing higher student
achievement gains in ANet schools as compared to gains in districts, state, and schools with similar
demographics."
