Project Description:

"The Betances Early Reading PreK-3 Lab School being proposed by the Hartford Public Schools, the LEA in
Hartford, Connecticut, is a five year project that will create an innovative learning community by joining
together two powerful components. The core of the project is a PreK-3 school structure, which will immerse
young learners in a rich literacy curriculum in the framework of a stable, consistent and aligned school
environment that will facilitate grade transitions. The other integral component of this project is the Early
Literacy Professional Development Center. This Center is designed to create a learning community of teachers
and staff who are dedicated to continually gathering, analyzing, reflecting and acting on data in order to
maximize student learning."
