PreK-3rd Quality and Alignment Model (P3QAM) Validation Project
"The P3QAM (PreK-3rd Quality and Alignment Model) is an innovative and evidence-based approach to improving early outcomes by building a continuum of quality education for children from age three through third grade. Currently in American education, preschool programs are completely disconnected from our elementary schools. The P3QAM bolts them together by using aligned high standards, curricula and instruction with high quality assessments. The result of this innovative reconception of early public education is improved outcomes for all children, especially those with high needs, including: increased 3rd grade academic achievement, accelerated academic growth PreK-3rd, reduced achievement gaps, reduced supplemental services for students, and improved social/emotional status for children.
The P3QAM Validation Project is a multi-faceted initiative that aims to (1) complete a randomized control study of the P3QAM, producing strong evidence of its effectiveness and (2) establish practices, partnerships, and infrastructure for scale up of the P3QAM statewide. The P3QAM project design capitalizes on the assets of the individual partners while also creating an overall structure that allows for both validation and replication of the P3QAM.
Our partnership consists of The New School Foundation, a Seattle-based nonprofit that is a PreK-3rd pioneer; Bremerton School District, located in a working-class town, a thought leader and training hub for PreK-3rd in Washington; Toppenish School District, a predominantly Latino and Native American district in the center of our state, also a PreK-3rd early adopter; and Seattle School District, our state's largest district, whose leadership is deeply committed to PreK-3rd implementation, building on the success of the South Shore School. The P3QAM is grounded in evidence from the partners' work, and the Validation Project will be steered by this partnership so that P3QAM is implemented with high fidelity across our state.
