In September, President Obama submitted to Congress the American Jobs Act, a bill designed to jumpstart economic growth and job creation. The American Jobs Act will provide $30 billion to support teachers’ jobs, $25 billion to upgrade existing public school facilities and $5 billion to invest in modernizing community colleges. While the President’s plan will help create and preserve jobs in the short term, in the long term the plan will help ensure America’s children get the preparation they need to compete for jobs in the knowledge economy of the 21st Century.
